The term gastritis refers to any condition that involves inflammation of the stomach lining. Eating certain foods and avoiding others can help people manage gastritis symptoms.
Gastritis can be acute or chronic. Acute gastritis comes on suddenly and severely, while chronic gastritis lasts for a longer time.
Common symptoms of gastritis include, indigestion, abdominal pain, nausea, and feeling full.
For most people, gastritis is minor and will go away quickly after treatment. However, some forms of gastritis can produce ulcers or increase the risk of cancer.
Various factors can damage the stomach lining to cause gastritis, including the following.
Drinking alcohol.
Taking aspirin and pain relievers, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Swallowing corrosive substances.
Having bacterial or viral infections.
And Getting radioactive treatments to the upper abdomen or lower part of the chest.
The gastritis diet is designed to ease symptom flare-ups and prevent the condition from worsening.
The broad goal of a gastritis diet is to reduce stomach inflammation. Inflammation in the stomach lining causes a breakdown in the production of protective mucus.
The general recommendation of a gastric diet is to avoid eating foods or drinking beverages that commonly cause stomach irritation. This includes spicy food, coffee, alcohol, and acidic fruits.
The foods you can eat on the gastric diet are rather flexible. People may react differently to specific foods. As long as a particular food doesn’t cause you a problem, you can enjoy it.
You can add the following foods in to your diet if you have gastritis.
Beans and legumes.
Eggs, egg whites, or egg substitutes, without frying.
Seafood, and shellfish, without frying.
Honey.
Low-acid vegetables, such as cucumber, white potato, and carrots.
Low-sugar, and low-acid fruits, such as pumpkin, blueberries, strawberries, and apples.
Mild, low-salt cheese.
Oats and barley.
Peppermint, ginger, and turmeric.
Plain, low-fat yogurt.
Probiotic-rich foods, such as sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha.
Rice.
Skinless, lean poultry, such as chicken and turkey.
And, Whole grain bread and pasta.

Foods that you should avoid include the following.

Acidic fruits such as citrus fruits.
Acidic vegetables such as onions.
Alcohol.
Chocolate.
Coffee and tea.
Corn and its products.
Energy drinks.
Fatty or greasy foods, fast foods, and spicy food.
Fried eggs.
Marinades, salsa, mayonnaise, creamy sauces.
Potato chips, and packaged snacks
Processed meat such as sausages, and hot dogs.
Red meat.
Refined grains, fresh bread, and pasta made with refined flour.
Smoked meats.
Soda, and other carbonated beverages.

Spices, including black pepper, chili powder, mustard seed, nutmeg, and red pepper.
And, Tomato and its products.
