Cesaria Evora is perhaps the Cape Verde’s most famous export. The singer shot to international stardom in the nineties. The Grammy-winning barefoot diva put Cape Verde firmly on the map, with her ‘morna’ ballads – songs of loss and longing unique to the islands. She died in her home town of Mindelo, Sao Vicente Island in 2011, but her legacy remains as potent as her music on the archipelago. CGTN’s Lindy Mtongana tells us more.
